You give your wife or hubby that look…the one that says oh yeah, we will definitely be coming back. This is what happened to my wife Jeanette and I, with Brothers Taverna in Astoria, Queens. It ticks off all those necessary boxes when dining out. Here’s our review.

Restaurant Vibe

The restaurant has a modern exterior while the inside has a relaxed casual vibe. The staff is very welcoming. Brothers Taverna is great for families and friends looking to enjoy a good meal and spending some time together. Several flat screens are spread throughout the restaurant which is convenient for those who wish to watch the latest sporting events.

The server started us off with complimentary toasted bread with an Olive Hummus Dip. It was so good we almost asked for another serving. The only reason we didn’t ask for a refill is that we wanted to make sure we had enough space in our tummies for the food.

Drinks

When our server took the drink order I chose a FIX Hellas Beer. I was told it was a Beer imported from Greece and that I would enjoy it. This European Pale Lager was light, refreshing, and served in a nice cold glass. I enjoyed 2 of them with our meal.

Jeanette went with a glass of white Sangria. She said it was not super sweet and some of the best Sangria she ever had.

We later learned that FIX was founded in Athens, Greece in 1864. It was the first major brewery in Greece. The FIX company maintained a leading position in the market for about 100 years.

However, after going through bankruptcy in 1983 and going through several highs and lows the beer returned to the original brewery in 2009. Good to hear because I intend to consume more of this great beer.

Starters

Not a big fan of peas but these baked peas served with cubed potatoes and carrots in olive oil were very good.

Brothers-Taverna-Lemon-Potatoes

We highly recommend these appetizing lemon potatoes. They were soft, full of flavor, addictive and mouthwatering.

This housemade sausage was DELISH. They were well seasoned and just wish it was a more generous portion. It was a great choice, pairing very well with the lemon potatoes.

Another side dish we enjoyed were these zucchini and eggplant chips. They were lightly fried and not a single chip was leftover on the plate.

Main Dishes

I ordered the Bifteki Platter as my main. The Bifteki consists of a homemade beef patty mixed with ground lamb. It’s served up with fries, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and Tzasiki sauce.

My wife went with the Chicken Gyro sandwich. It came along with french fries inside a pita. She loved it.

Desserts

This dessert right here must be the best Jeanette and I ever shared. Besides our wedding cake of course. LOL. It’s an orange dessert that is served hot with vanilla ice cream on top. Not sure if it was cake or pie. All we can say is that it was excellent. It wasn’t too sweet with a hint of orange flavor. Be sure to leave room for this specialty. It is one of only 2 of their dessert offerings. The other being rice pudding.

I ended my dinner with a Cappuccino. A perfect ending to a great meal.

Final Thoughts

Brothers Taverna offers great food, drinks, and service. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The environment was clean and welcoming. Looking forward to trying other dishes on their menu. We see ourselves visiting over and over again.
